MAY 2024
A NOTE FROM PRINCIPAL EGAN
Principal Bill Egan NCHS
Dear NCHS Family,

Can you believe how quickly the year is flying by? It feels like just yesterday, we were kicking off the semester! As May rolls in, NCHS prepares for the end of the school year's traditional events – prom, musical performances, concerts, picnics, awards, and graduation. However, let's not forget that balancing celebrations and staying focused is critical to ending the year strong.

On Tuesday, May 7th at 7:00pm, the NCHS Band will be presenting their Spring Concert in the auditorium. This concert will feature music such as Pirates of the Caribbean and Celtic Air and Dance. It will also showcase the incredible talent of our senior trombonist, Daryl Lavin, who will perform a solo on Fantasy for Trombone. The evening will culminate with a special senior recognition ceremony, where all our band seniors will be honored for their exceptional service to the band program. Before we play our final song, a medley of tunes from the Guardians of the Galaxy chosen by the seniors, we will take a moment to appreciate their contributions. We hope to see you there!

AP Exams are administered from May 6-17. Students should review their notes and contact their teachers for additional help. Sleeping, studying, and managing time are essential.

This year’s Senior Prom will be held at the Hyatt Regency in Greenwich on Friday, May 17th. We look forward to celebrating our seniors beginning at 7:00 p.m. A Post Prom celebration at Waveny House will follow the prom from 11:59PM-4:00 AM.

The school-wide picnic is back by popular demand. On Monday, May 20th, students and staff will celebrate the year with lunch, games, and time with friends. Please keep your fingers crossed for a sunny day!

I’d like to wish our Senior Class all the best as they embark on their Senior Internship experience on Tuesday, May 21st. This is a unique and exciting opportunity for them to gain valuable real-world experience and put the skills they learned throughout their academic journey into practice. I am confident they will make the most of this opportunity and represent the school and themselves with pride and professionalism. Good luck, and enjoy the journey!

Our last musical production of the year will transport you to the enchanting world of Rodgers and Hammerstein's Cinderella. Beyond the fairy tale magic, this beloved musical carries profound messages about kindness, self-worth, and the power of love. Whether you're a fan of classic theater or seeking a heartwarming family spectacle, Cinderella guarantees to be an evening of enchantment. Performances are on Friday, May 31st, at 7:00 PM and Saturday, June 1st at 12:00PMand 5:00 PM in the NCHS Auditorium.

I am looking forward to seeing you at all the exciting NCHS happenings.

All the best,

Bill Egan

Principal

Safe Driving Week Recap

It was a fun and  exciting week at NCHS, as the PFA led its annual week-long Safe Driving initiative! Students heard safe driving facts and stats each day during the morning announcements and were treated to giveaways in the cafeteria during lunch periods.

Special thanks to Ms. Pennoyer’s art class—Jack Cooley (lead designer), along with Harrison Stainer, Zane Tickoo, Julian Doshi and Tim Galaretta—for designing stickers for us this year!

Other activities included field sobriety tests using Fatal Vision Goggles by the New Canaan Police Department and a speaker, Brendan Faulkner from endDD.org. Brendan presented the impacts of distracted driving to the Junior and Senior classes.

Sadly, due to weather, the crash scene/rescue reenactment put on in partnership with the New Canaan Police, Fire and EMS Departments, the Drama Club, NCTV and Rubino’s Auto Body was not able to occur this year.

Thank you to all of our community partners for working together on this potentially life-saving program. We'd also like to thank the PFA's Safe Driving Week co-chairs Kathy Bakal and Dr. Anna Simonis for organizing the events and providing our students with reminders for safety on the road. We were pleased to see the students engaged in the week’s activities and hope all of the Safe Driving programs will positively influence our NCHS drivers!
